Biography of Gerry and About Century 21 Real Estate - Quinte West (Trenton)

Gerry Thomas

Your Associate Broker

Gerry obtained his real estate license in January 1978 after serving 25-plus years in the Royal Canadian Air Force/Canadian Armed Forces as a navigator.  He received the Canadian Forces Decoration and clasp for serving twenty-five years of undetected crime.

He began his real estate career by joining CENTURY 21 Colonial Real Estate Ltd. in their newly opened Trenton office in 1978.  One of the main reasons he joined the CENTURY 21® System is the advanced training and support the organization provides to its sales associates at every level.  The CENTURY 21 system has taken the lead in the real estate industry in providing quality client service and more recently in the training of buyer representation.  He learned, during his training program, that the consultative sales approach is much more natural and comfortable for everyone involved.

In the early years Gerry considered becoming a full time, professional appraiser and Completed the training required to be an Accredited Appraiser of the Canadian Institute (A.A.C.I.), through the Appraisal Institute of Canada.  After several years of completing residential appraisals for several banks in Trenton, Gerry decided to spend more time selling real estate because he enjoyed the rapport established with people when selling or listing a home and the feeling of satisfaction obtained when the task was successfully completed.

In the late 1980's Gerry decided to use his military training as a navigation instructor to become qualified to teach the three phases of the basic real estate course.  There were many instructors and it was difficult to obtain teaching assignments.  About this time the Ontario Real Estate Association began to require that sales people complete three post-graduate courses within two years of obtaining their license, appraisal, mortgage financing and law.  Gerry took advantage of his previous training and experience to become a "qualified Appraisal Instructor", a designation he held until December 31, 2000.  Gerry met the requirements  and obtained the new Market Value Appraiser (MVA-Residential) accreditation from the Ontario Real Estate Association in 1997.  This accreditation provides financial institutions and Canada Mortgage and Housing the assurance that the holder of the accreditation is qualified to carry out residential appraisals for mortgage purposes.

Gerry has completed the five courses of study required to complete the Certified Commercial/Investment Member (CCIM) a designation awarded by the Canadian Real Estate Association.  Gerry did not follow through and obtain the designation, however, he has used the knowledge obtained on the courses to successfully participate in many commercial real estate sales and lease-ups.

The vast experience and knowledge that Gerry has obtained over the years has been used to provide astute advice to both his residential and commercial clients.
